Brooklyn Global Prep > Parenting > From Unhappy to Unstoppable: Transforming Your Child’s Preschool Experience

Having second thoughts about the preschool you’ve picked for your child? Totally par for the parenting course! Parenting is one tough gig, and we’re all doing our best, but hey, we’re not perfect. If you’re feeling like the current preschool isn’t the right fit, don’t beat yourself up about it. Making a switch can be a tough decision, but it’s one you’re making out of love and concern for your little one.

Remember, you’re not alone in this. Many parents have been right where you are. And the thing is, your peace of mind and your child’s happiness are absolutely worth it. Trust your instincts, and don’t let guilt hold you back from finding a more suitable preschool program. Your family’s well-being comes first, and that’s something to be proud of! So go ahead and explore your options – you’ve got this!

Here’s a handy guide to help you navigate your emotions and ease the transition, along with ten compelling reasons to contemplate a school switch:

  • Reflect on Your Reasons: Take some time to reflect on the specific reasons you are unhappy with the current preschool. Identifying these reasons will reinforce your decision and help you explain it to your child.
  • Seek Support: Talk to friends, family members, or other parents who have gone through similar situations. They can provide valuable insights and emotional support during the transition.
  • Visit New Preschools: Visit potential new preschools with your child to involve them in the decision-making process. Let them see the new environment and express their thoughts and feelings.
  • Open Communication: Have an open and age-appropriate conversation with your child about the upcoming change. Explain the reasons for the transition and reassure them that it’s for their benefit.
  • Transition Plan: Work with the new preschool to develop a transition plan. Ask about any orientation or meet-and-greet opportunities to help your child become familiar with the new surroundings and teachers.
  • Stay Positive: Maintain a positive attitude and reassure your child that change can be exciting and an opportunity to make new friends and learn new things.
  • Maintain Consistency: Try to keep other aspects of your child’s routine as consistent as possible to provide stability during the transition.
  • Give It Time: Understand that it may take some time for your child to fully adjust to the new preschool. Be patient and supportive as they settle into their new environment.
  • Self-Care: Don’t forget to take care of yourself during this period of change. It’s normal to feel a mix of emotions, and self-care can help you manage stress and anxiety.
  • Trust Your Decision: Trust that you’re making the right decision for your child’s happiness and education. Your instincts as a parent are valuable.

It’s a brave and caring step to ensure your child’s educational and emotional needs are met. Over time, you’ll likely see your child flourish and be happier in their new preschool environment. Here are ten good reasons to consider changing schools:

  • Your Parental Instincts: Trust your parental instincts. If you have a strong feeling that your child would be happier and better supported in a different preschool, it’s a valid reason to consider making the switch.
  • Quality of Education: If you believe that your child’s current preschool is not providing the level of education and enrichment you desire, switching to a school with a stronger curriculum can offer better learning opportunities.
  • Safety Concerns: If you have concerns about the safety of your child at their current preschool, such as inadequate supervision or safety protocols, it’s crucial to prioritize their well-being.
  • Mismatched Teaching Approach: Sometimes, children may not thrive in an educational environment that doesn’t align with their learning style or personality. Changing to a school with a teaching approach better suited to your child’s needs can lead to improved academic and personal development.
  • Communication Issues: If you’ve experienced consistent communication problems with the current school, such as difficulties in receiving updates on your child’s progress or concerns, a school with more transparent communication practices may be a better fit.
  • Bullying or Behavioral Issues: If your child is experiencing bullying or behavioral problems at their current preschool that are not adequately addressed, switching to a school with a more positive and supportive atmosphere can be beneficial.
  • Unhappiness or Anxiety: If your child is consistently unhappy or anxious about attending their current preschool, it can have a negative impact on their overall well-being. A change in environment can help them feel more comfortable and confident.
  • Inadequate Resources: If the current preschool lacks essential resources, such as educational materials, facilities, or extracurricular activities, switching to a better-equipped school can enhance your child’s educational experience.
  • Negative Peer Influence: If you’re concerned about the peer group at your child’s current preschool and believe it’s having a negative influence, a different school may provide a more positive social environment.
  • Teacher-Student Relationship: If your child is not forming a positive connection with their current teacher, changing schools can provide an opportunity for a better teacher-student relationship.

Remember that your child’s happiness, safety, and educational well-being should be the top priorities. Discuss your concerns with your child’s current preschool, explore alternative options, and make an informed decision that aligns with your family’s values and your child’s needs.

Brooklyn Global Prep is an overall outstanding learning environment for children. Our son is in the French Waddler class, and we have found his teachers to be caring and attentive, the classrooms and facilities to be beautiful and conducive to learning/exploring/creating, and the school community to be wonderful to be a part of. I have found that everyone goes above and beyond for the care of our children, and that school policies are clear and reasonable. Highly recommend!

My son started at Brooklyn Global Prep at 9 months old in the infant classroom where he has been exposed to French and Mandarin daily. It has been a very positive experience for our son and for my husband and I. I love the language immersion as well as ratio of the classrooms. Our son has made strives in his independence and achieving milestones. I am very happy with the care and our choice in choosing Brooklyn Global Prep.

We are so happy BGP came to the neighborhood! We started with Saturday classes for our 3 year old and quickly fell in love with the teachers, director and the space. Our infant just started in the baby room in November and we couldn't be happier! The school is so bright, clean and welcoming. We highly recommend them! Thanks BGP for loving our babies while we are at work. The Sigala family!

My son Benjamin goes to BGP's Mandarin class on Saturdays and he absolutely loves it! The environment is well-designed and beautiful. The teachers there are very caring and the classes are fun and creative. We appreciate how they encourage kids to explore different tools and toys there. Astara is very helpful and we are telling all of our friends about this magic place.

Honestly, my husband and I didn’t know what to expect because we have only had experience with in-home preschool settings. We were more than impressed with every classroom and the teachers were so friendly. The director Ms. Astara gave us a tour and answered all of our questions. We can't wait for the school to open so we can send our girls there!

My daughter went to Brooklyn Global Prep for the weekend activities and had the most amazing time! The classrooms are magical! I am so happy I have found a space like this for my daughter to learn (without even realizing she’s learning). She has talked about this school everyday and cannot wait to return. I travel from New Jersey for her to be apart of the weekend classes and love that she gets exposure to other languages and cultures such as French and Mandarin. I truly wish I could relocate to Brooklyn to enroll her in this school because I cannot imagine a better place for my daughter to spend her days. The classrooms are clean and filled with the most unique, state of the art equipment. The Director and staff members are all wonderful people who are genuinely there to provide the students with a quality education that is engaging and fun! If you live in Brooklyn this is the school you want your child to attend!
